Discover your healthiest self: Skincare

For years, I battled with skin issues. Through trial and error, I can finally say, I feel comfortable in my skin. I’ve paved a way to achieve clear, healthy skin and maintain it. Investing the time to take care of you, is worth it. Your skin is a great accessory to show off. Flaunt it!

I want to share some tips I’ve learned along the way.


1. Water

Water not only nourishes the body, but helps aid in clear skin. I have a post here about the benefits of water. It’s one of the beauty secrets to great skin with a glow!

2. Sleep

Sleep is vital to the health of our body. Try not to sacrifice on a proper nights rest. Get plenty of sleep to avoid dark circles or even bags from appearing under the eye. Although, there are many serums on the market for the eyes. I tend to stay away from these products. I try to find natural oils at my local Whole Foods to moisturize underneath my eyes after washing my face. Maintain a sleep schedule and get plenty of rest!

3. Food

If you are like me, I’m obsessed with chocolate (well I use to be), but the aftermath can lead to breakouts. Not as much as when I was younger, but pimples can develop. I try to avoid eating sweets as much as I can. Although, who doesn’t enjoy chocolate once in a while, mmm! Know what foods trigger breakouts and try to avoid.

4. Face cleansers

I prefer all things natural, if possible. I can’t always be 100% on purchasing organic products. Due to my combination skin (oily and dry), I can be sensitive to certain ingredients. I avoid anything with fragrances, alcohol, or abrasive pads/beads.  Luckily, the market creates products for combination skin. You just have to research and ask a licensed professional. I’ll share the products in a later post!

5. Sunblock

This is important, I’ve been doing it for many years. Sunblock should be applied all year round, not only in the summer. Sun damage can occur at any time. You may not notice it considerably in the winter, but dry patches do occur. Make it apart of your morning routine!

6. Exfoliate

This is very key, helps to remove the dead skin and buildup from makeup.  We don’t realize the environmental debris and sweat can buildup in our pores. The skin absorbs a lot. I prefer to exfoliate every other day. Definitely notice a difference when I decided to do this. My face looks cleaner and radiant.

These are just some of the tips I’ve used to help maintain healthy skin.  Remember to always check with a licensed medical professional for information about your skin and products to use.

  1. To add to your wisdom words , I find Bio-oil very helpful to my skin since I have dry skin. I use it at bedtime . We can find it in the pharmacy over the counter skin care .
