Discover your healthiest self: Stress

Deadlines, pressure, time constraints, dating, parenting, traffic and oh my, 😆. It can be all so stressful. The heavier the load, the deeper the pressure becomes. There so much to do, so little time, and it never ends. Stress levels rise and we keep hoping for a release.

Stress can take a toll not only on your mental health, but can affect you physically. We treat only the symptoms instead of getting to the root. Stress. How can we change your mind on the value of health. Here’s some advice:

You matter.

How much do you value yourself? Honestly, have you given this a thought. Everything else seems to be priority, while you’ve become secondary (or way at the bottom of the list). You matter, you know. And despite what you think, you’re actually burning yourself out. Let’s face it, running on empty. Which could explain the mood swings, fatigue, and mental fog. Take a break, turn yourself off, log off. Stop, Be still. There’s value in stillness and take time to breathe. It’s ok not to be the superhero.

Plan & Time

Plan as you may you won’t be able to control every single detail. Time waits for no one, so make the best of it. Don’t try to fit everything, within every millisecond. You won’t be able to do it all. God didn’t create the universe in one day. Just pace yourself, and do the best you can. It’s totally fine to be organized and plan, but remember things happen beyond our control. We have to learn to let go of always being in control. It is difficult to let go, but it would release some of the tension. Sometimes, it’s ok if something doesn’t go as plan. Somehow what is meant to be, will eventually work out.

Say No

Two letters come with great power. But we’re in fear of using it, because we don’t want to disappoint others. Here’s the reality, disappointment happens whether we like or not. You can’t please everyone. You’ll never meet everyone’s expectations. Although, we have the skills to fix it, we can’t complete everyone’s assignment. Most times saying No, keeps your peace. It does require balance and discipline. We have to learn how to create healthy boundaries, where saying No is an option. If we’re really honest, reflect on the many times people say No. The same people who always rely on you to keep them happy, but always fail to return the favor. Think about it. It’s not worth destroying your peace to please others. Just Say No!

Many people view this as being selfish. I totally disagree. You cannot seek to do for others, what you are not willing to do for yourself. Don’t forget what the flight attendant says, “reach for your own oxygen mask, before helping someone else with there’s.” If the roles were reverse, how would you seek to help someone get oxygen, when you’re running out of your own. The same can be said about Self Care. When was the last time you enjoyed a lazy day, quiet time, bubble bath, spa day, or walk outside. Treat yourself once a while, momentarily dump the weight of responsibility to the side. It’s the best gift you could give yourself. Many of you with planners, its time to pencil in self care. This could vary from person to person. But even if its for 15-20 minutes a day or 2-3 times a week. It will make a huge difference for your mental health.

We take stress for granted. Running a race, to be the best and be first. Sometimes, its ok to stop running and take a break. Stress is not something you should take lightly. It can have an effect on your physical health, its time to invest in your health. You Are A Priority, everything else is secondary. Always, seek a medical professional about ways to to support a healthier alternative lifestyle.  You Matter!

  1. I completely agree with you about Self-Care, because you have to take care of yourself before you can fully take care of others. I think people confuse the word “self” with being selfish … there is a difference. I like all the points you touched on.

  2. Great post Tiffany! How can we be a help to other people if we are falling apart ourselves. It’s important to have that time to recharge. Great tips in there for sure, keep it up!😃😺
